Religious Education

Intent Statement

At Anlaby Primary school, we aim to deliver a high-quality Religious education that enables our children to gain and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions that are prominent in Great Britain. We teach our children to appreciate the way religious beliefs shape life and behaviour in the past and in the present. Our curriculum gives children the ability to make reasoned and informed judgments about religious, moral and social issues. Religious Education plays an important role in promoting social awareness, tolerance and respect in our children. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We include and promote British values, ensuring that children are aware of their rights and responsibilities as UK citizens. We aim to give our children opportunities for enrichment within the subject through memorable experience days, visitors into school and school trips. Our curriculum is focused on the three main strands set out by the East Riding Agreed Syllabus which are: Theology, Philosophy and Social Science.

We value the religious background of all members of the school community and hope that this will encourage individuals to share their own experiences with others freely. All religions and their communities are treated with respect and sensitivity and we value the links, which are, and can be made between home, school, and our local community.
