Modern Foreign Languages

MFL Intent

At Anlaby Primary School, we believe that our MFL curriculum helps foster our children’s curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world as well as providing an opening to learning more about other cultures and the wider world in general. Mostly focused on French, our curriculum allows children to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers in speech and writing. Through learning another language, we feel that children gain a better understanding of the grammatical structures of English, which then supports them across the wider curriculum. We believe our teaching of languages sets the foundations for learning further languages at secondary school and equips our pupils to study and work in other countries in the future. Through our MFL curriculum, we hope to enable children to become resilient learners with transferrable skills that can be used across the curriculum.
